ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Jimmy Owens’ almost 50-year career in jazz has allowed him to become an accomplished trumpeter, flugelhorn player composer, arranger, and lecturer. Although he has few recordings as a solo artist, Owens has had a fruitful career through session work with groups and bandleaders that has allowed his career to flourish.
Born and raised in New York, Owens started playing trumpet at age 14 under Donald Byrd and later studied music composition under Henry Brant. He graduated from the High School of Music and Art and subsequently attended the University of Massachusetts, where he obtained his master’s in education.
