In 2007, Eyal moved to New York and attended the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music after receiving a generous scholarship. In 2009, Eyal was featured in the university’s newspaper as an “outstanding graduate”. For the past years, Eyal has had the privilege of studying and playing with some of the last leaving legends of the jazz world such as: Junior Mance, Charles Tolliver, Jimmy Owens, Charli Persip’s Supersound, Frank Wess, Bob Cranshaw and Cecil Bridgewater. Eyal works with various ensembles as a leader and as a sideman and has performed in some of the city’s best venues, including Jazz at Lincoln Center – Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Iridium, Sweet Rhythm, Smalls, Swing 46, Birdland, Smoke, Fat Cat, The Garage, Café Centro, and the Hudson River Park’s Stars of Tomorrow series. Eyal’s main project these days is his very own Big Band to which he composer and arranger, conduct and play. During the month of December 2009, the big band featured world-renowned jazz legends Mr. Junior Mance and NEA Jazz Master Mr. Jimmy Owens. The Eyal Vilner Big Band performs on NYC’s prestigious stages since fall 2008. After playing a week at Jazz at Lincoln Center- Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, the band went to Bennett Studios to record their debut album that was released in January 2012.
